Year 7 Literacy and Numeracy Catch-up Funding

At Isebrook School, we recognise the importance of literacy and numeracy on the life chances of our students. We understand the problems encountered by young people when they transition from primary education to secondary education, and therefore we endeavour to ensure that this transition is smooth so that all our students are supported to access learning at their level and so continue their progress.

Our Year 7 Literacy and Numeracy Catch-up Funding will enable us to support our young people’s move into secondary school and prepare for adulthood and lifelong learning.

What is the Catch-up Premium?

The Government has made a commitment to provide additional funding to schools for each year 7 pupil who did not achieve at least level 4 in the Key Stage 2 national curriculum tests in reading and/or mathematics.  The purpose of this funding is to enable schools to deliver additional support, such as individual tuition or intensive support in small groups, for those pupils that most need it.

Each school will receive £500 per pupil — here at Isebrook that will mean around £12,300 for 2017-18.

Purpose of the funding

Schools should assess the individual needs of each of the pupils who attract the year 7 catch-up premium to decide the best way to use the funding, and should only select programmes and approaches that they know to be effective.

Possible uses of the funding include:

• Individual interventions / tuition
• Intensive small-group interventions / tuition
• External services and materials
