Why do we teach it?

Our long-term aim is to be able to provide a personalised mathematics curriculum that is accessible to all students, focusing on the development and application of the key mathematics skills that are required for their daily life and future aspirations.

How do we teach it? 

The focus of the Maths curriculum at Isebrook is enabling students to be able to apply the skills they have learnt successfully. We teach Maths through the Concrete, Pictorial and Abstract (CPA) approach, which is an effective approach that develops a deeper understanding of mathematical concepts. Students will make progress throughout the CPA approach, working towards a formal written method, once they have mastered each concept. This is explained in more detail in our calculation policy.

What difference does it make?

Our students leave Isebrook with the maths skills needed to be able to successfully live in the Modern World. They have an understanding of key concepts such as money and time, in addition to number calculations. Many students leave Isebrook with appropriate qualifications in Maths, such as functional Skills, which support them in the next stage of their learning or employment. In short, we aim to equip students with the skills needed to become:
